Much like every other fantasy position, the outlook on drafting and playing tight ends has completely changed over the past few seasons. Unlike other positions, however, it mainly comes as the result of a couple individual players. Tony Gonzalez and Antonio Gates may have ushered in the era of the Tight End, but Jimmy Graham and Rob Gronkowski are taking it to a whole new level. The gap between the range of start-able players is larger at TE than any position other than RB, and Jimmy Graham is a legitimate first round pick.
We firmly believe that Gronk is the #2 option at the position, and is getting undervalued in most drafts. The fight to find good tight ends on the waiver wire or towards the end of drafts is difficult, and we advocate being active on the waiver wire to follow breakout performances similar to Julius Thomas’s last season.
